Welcome to Women In Ranching, a community and support network for women involved in agriculture. We aim to connect, educate, inspire, and grow as a diverse community of women in the field. Our mission is to provide a space where all women can be seen and affirmed in their leadership and stewardship of the land. With a focus on diversity, equity, and belonging, we strive to create a better future for all.

Our Purpose

Origin Story

Women In Ranching started in 2016 as a response to the need for support and community among women in agriculture. Elaine Patarini of Paicines Ranch and Wendy Millet of Tomkat Ranch gathered women together to connect and create a community within an industry that historically marginalized female-identifying individuals. The success of the initial gathering led to annual facilitated Circles and further expansion.

Our Journey

After gaining exposure and support from the Western Landowners Alliance (WLA), Women In Ranching became a program of WLA in 2018. Under the guidance of Amber Smith and Hallie Mahowald, the program continued to grow and provide a wider breadth of opportunities for women seeking community in their work on the land. In 2022, Women In Ranching took the next step and became an independent nonprofit organization with a mission to champion rural women's leadership on the land.

As we celebrate our journey and growth, we remain committed to inclusivity and diversity within our organization. We recognize the importance of having a board and leadership that reflects the fullness of those caring for the land. With a robust and diverse community, Women In Ranching looks forward to a future guided by the voices and experiences of women in agriculture.
