Xfinity Birds of Prey World Cup Downhill

Project Overview

For the second time, Milhoan Design was selected to illustrate the poster for the Xfinity Birds of Prey Audi FIS Ski World Cup Super G and Downhill races held in beautiful Beaver Creek, Colorado. Labeled as the North American event “Where Winter Begins,” the weeklong festivities include live music, beer gardens, ski films, and last but not least, the best ski racers on the World Cup circuit.Overview

The process began with some initial research about this year's festivities, and having grown up on the slopes of Vail and Beaver Creek, inspiration was easily found. Crowd noises, multinational flags, cowbells, and a very colorful audience complimented the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Sawatch Range and the baby blue skies of Western Colorado and made the perfect ingredients for this year's event poster.

This fully digital illustration uses a combination of layers and solid colors to create contrast and depth and as a challenge, gradients were disallowed to be incorporated throughout the design. This artistic style is often used for screen printing, a process that only accepts solid colors or stippling.
